Lower Nazareth - Says No to Vettes and Camelot for Kids

Under Courtesy of the Floor during the April 9th, 2008 Lower Nazareth Board of Supervisors Meeting; the Supervisors heard from the Corvette Club of Easton who were represented by Mr. Charles Gordon.

Basically the Corvette Club has been holding “Cruise Nights” for the past eleven years at Northampton Crossings without incident; with all proceeds going to Camelot for Children (a great charity.) The local retail stores see increased sales during the events and support it’s continuation according to Mr. Gordon.

Now the township staff tell them they can’t anymore. That is unless they will buy a permit, move to the Burger King parking lot, and cut the show in half. Early on Tenges comments were that they (staff) were looking for guidance from the Board on how to handle these type requests, near the end of the presentation (when it looked like the Supervisors had some sympathy for the Club) Tenges said it’s not for the Board to decide, it’s a zoning issue.

The Supervisors thanked he Corvette Club for coming and noted Camelot for Kids is a good charity (but they took no action nor made any recommendations) after Tenges’ comments.

It’s sad, that’s what it is. Rather then deal with the offenders and/or the undesirables the Twp. Staff just say no to all and try to blame that on the “rules.”

Cruise nights are great family entertainment and an American tradition - but let’s not have any of that in Lower Nazareth - hey maybe the Club would like to put up a warehouse?

That is just crazy! Has our township supervisor lost their minds, I already know Tim has. They are turning something away that benefits KIDS, can we get more heartless?

Aren’t these for healthy nights out walking under the stars, a place to go to get kids out and know where they are in the township? Are the same people not approving the cruise nights they same kind of peop;le that hand their kids video games so they dont have to teach them. Yes, as a township we should be stepping up and letting holsum type family nights happen, where people can get out and walk and breath fresh air and talk to their neighbors. Where people can admire nice craftsmanship and hand down some knowledge to a youngster and possibly give some direct to a troubled teen. Yes, little things like cruise nights do turn peoples lives around. And, I have not seen this township do anything to help prormote weekly cruise nights or gathering where everyone is freindly unless it is at a local bar where kids cant go with their parents, or some little league baseball game where there is some type of competition more for the parents then the fun of the game. Make the township a fun place. Offer to have pickup games instead of making money on the fields every night. Organize a fun league where township residence and there kids can play together. Male or female. So many ideas of what use to work in the past have been pushed aside for a buck and no one thinks of the kids and teaching them morals and respect for fellow man. To many people would rather hand their child an electronic babysitter instead of spending real time with them. This township is doing nothing to help families spend time together. Can’t wait for this to happen but I dont hear anything about making people shut off their cars at SONIC yet. Think about how they are poluting the environment, wasting gas. Maybe the township should restrict car use in the township. I guess we get the idea. Promote the family attitude, preserve the farmland and openness that we have bought into. We are here for the open space, the farmland, and friendly atmosphere. Dont promote shutting people out and closing off our view of the land. Putting more parling lots around warehouse buildings and letting lights blare all night is not saving money either and it is not allowing the people a fairness of living near these areas. The people moved here for piece and quiet and darkness at night. If they want to live in the city, let them move someplace else. This is the country. Dont turn it into some wharehouse disrtict. Think about this, do onto others as you would have them do onto you. Would you want a warehouse next to your house? Or would you like to see a family enjoying a good time, with the kids and parents playing together. I think this township needs to wake up and not get steamrolled.
